Prime Healthcare is proud that 16 of our member hospitals participate in the GEDA program

Prime Healthcare is proud that 16 of our member hospitals participate in the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) program, with five GEDA hospitals located in Southern California. GEDA participation demonstrates a commitment to improved patient outcomes, ensures optimal transitions of care, and enables these hospitals to provide care tailored to the specialized needs of older adults.

The GEDA program is the culmination of years of progress in the emergency care of older adults. In 2014, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) along with the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Emergency Nurses Association, and American Geriatrics Society, developed and released geriatric ED guidelines, recommending measures ranging from adding geriatric-friendly equipment to specialized staff to more routine screening for delirium, dementia, and fall risk, among other vulnerabilities.
The voluntary GEDA program provides specific criteria and goals for emergency clinicians and administrators to target. A Geriatric Accredited emergency department must incorporate selected best practices, as well as provide inter-disciplinary geriatric education, and have geriatric appropriate equipment and supplies available.
