VICTORVILLE – Prime Healthcare’s Desert Valley Hospital was awarded an ‘A’ grade for protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.
A fall report card from The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grades said the hospital on Bear Valley Road earned the highest possible grade when it comes to overall performance.
DVH is the only hospital in the region to not only receive the Fall 2019 ‘A’ award but to earn three Leapfrog ‘A’ awards in a row, Leapfrog reported.
“Desert Valley Hospital is dedicated to our core value of quality and to serving our community with excellent care,” said DVH Chief Executive Officer Fred Hunter. “We are extremely proud to have earned three ‘A’ grades in a row for hospital safety because it reflects the commitment that Desert Valley Hospital, our physicians, staff and nurses make every day when caring for patients in our community.”
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year.
The safety grade methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
Leapfrog Group President/CEO Leah Binder said hospitals that receive “A” grades show that leadership is protecting patients from preventable “medical harm and error.”
“It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A,” said Binder in a written statement.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of healthcare committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.
DVH recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary and has also received multiple awards from Healthgrades including Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries for 3 Years in a Row (2018, 2019, 2020).
Other commendations include Five-Star Recipient for Defibrillator Procedures for seven Years in a Row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), Five- Star Recipient for Pacemaker Procedures for seven years in a Row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), Five-Star Recipient for Hip Fracture Treatment for seven years in a Row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia in 2020, Five- Star Recipient for Gallbladder Removal Surgery for seven years in a Row ( 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) ad Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism in 2020.
